For Immediate Release Folmer Bill Establishes "Tax Me More Fund"HARRISBURG – (January 23, 2008) – State Sen. Mike "Citizen Mike" Folmer (R-Lebanon) today introduced legislation that would help alleviate the angst of Pennsylvanians who feel they aren't being taxed enough by the Commonwealth, or that state spending needs to be increased. Specifically, Folmer's measure would allow people to voluntarily send financial contributions to the State Treasury, for deposit into a new "Tax Me More Fund." Since he was first elected, Folmer has been besieged with calls for increased spending. Some of those demanding that state government spend more have said that they would be willing to pay more in taxes for their favorite programs and projects. Said Folmer, "With the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania collecting $110 million each day, you can't tell me we aren't spending and taxing too much. We simply can't prioritize our spending. With a 'Tax Me More Fund,' people seeking higher spending and taxes can put their money where their mouth is with a personal contribution toward that end." Folmer's "Tax Me More Fund" is consistent with his Taxpayer Protection Act (SB 707), which would limit state spending to the lesser of 1) the combined rates of inflation and population growth; or 2) personal income growth. Folmer believes that uncontrolled spending, and the high taxes which accompany it, are hurting the middle class.
