Week of December 7, 2009 Town Hall Meeting Canceled My town hall meeting, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at Berks Encore in Wernersville, has been canceled. I apologize for any inconveniences this cancellation may cause. Stay tuned to Mike’s Memo for other upcoming town hall meetings. Senate Communications & Technology Committee The Senate Communications & Technology Committee, which I chair, conducted a public hearing on Auditor General Jack Wagner’s report on state procurement contracts. In addition to General Wagner, the Committee also heard testimony from Department of General Services Secretary James Creedon. Committee News Although the full Senate will not be in Session this week, there will be a number of Senate Committee meetings, including: Education Environmental Resources & Energy Agriculture & Rural Affairs PennDOT Changes Age Requirement for Photo ID Cards Act 159 of 2006 lowered the minimum age requirement for a Pennsylvania photo ID to age 10. The previous minimum age requirement to obtain a photo ID card was 16. For more information visit www.dmv.state.pa.us, and click on form DL-54A, "Application for Initial Photo Identification Card, under the Driver License/Photo ID category. Pearl Harbor Day "Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it," George Santayana, poet and philosopher. Today, December 7, is "Pearl Harbor Day," the 68th Anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The attack killed 2,402 servicemen and wounded 1,282 others. In addition to the loss of life, four U.S. battleships were sunk, and four others were damaged. Also destroyed or damaged were three cruisers, three destroyers, one minelayer, and 188 aircraft.
